Now that we’re halfway through the first season, it seems like a good time to throw together a masterpost/basic primer for Young Justice. Young Justice (Cartoon Network, 2011—) is the latest animated adaptation of DC Comics, and it’s the creators’ stated aim to distill the often contradictory and frequently retconned DCU into a single, coherent narrative viewed through the eyes of teen superheroes. (YJ is not an adaptation of the original 1998-2003 comic of the same name, though it takes a few cues from that title.)
So What’s It About?
A few short years after the emergence of Superman and the birth of the superhero age, the Justice League, overstretched and limited by the high visibility of their members, creates a new covert team that works under Batman—a team of teen superheroes who’ve already proven themselves willing and able to seek out and do the dirty work the League can’t.
A few of the teens—Aqualad, team leader and the level-headed, dry-witted Atlantean, Robin, Batman’s wisecracking technowiz of a protege, and Kid Flash, science geek and smartass—have known each other for years. Three others—Superboy, a clone of Superman with major abandonment issues and few interpersonal skills, Miss Martian, a gregarious shapeshifter whose knowledge of Earth she’s largely gleaned from television, and Artemis, a cynical former assassin who only wants to start over in Gotham with her mother—are new. One among the six may very well be a mole for a mysterious, dangerous organization known only as the Light.
The show is as much about these teens trying to navigate the dynamics of the team and their relationships with each other, as well as their own personal struggles with who they are, as it is the actual superheroics. Aqualad must learn to command the team, with being a leader when he also wants to stay a friend. Superboy struggles to find purpose in his life, and Miss Martian fights to please everyone but to also remain true to herself. Robin struggles with his own perfectionist expectations of himself, and Artemis discovers starting over is both easier than and as hard as she expected it to be. Wally must deal with his own prejudices and ingrained judgments and expectations of others, and they all of them must learn to work together—to become a team in their own right instead of simply the shadow arm of the Justice League.
If you’re a fan of the DCAU, if you like team-centric shows or if you’re a casual fan of superheroes, you might want to give Young Justice a try! It’s engaging, character-driven and well-plotted, with a deft eye both for exciting fight sequences and quiet moments between two characters, and it’s beautifully animated, too. Character development is organic and consistent, each episode building upon the one before. If it continues as it’s done, it may very well prove to be my favorite superhero adaptation, period!
Get To The Goods, Sister!
All episodes are the HQ 720p .mkv files, so they’re fairly large, about ~700MB each. All episodes are uploaded to Megaupload, as it’s the site with which I am most familiar and most comfortable. I am currently in the process of uploading split files to Mediafire as well; to join the pieces, you will need to use HJSplit, which is free to download and to use, and safe as well! I’ve used it for several years and can vouch for it.
If you’ve suggestions or recommendations for other reliable hosting services, please let me know via ask! I will be more than happy to try to up them elsewhere as well.

DC Comics is currently publishing a tie-in comic by the same name written by the creative team responsible for the show. It operates largely as a supplement to the show, with hints, info, and more character moments as well as standalone adventures. You can read the issues using a comic book archive, or you can always rename the file extension from .cbz/.cbr/etc. to .zip/.rar/etc. and unzip the file to read the pages in your preferred image viewer. For those having difficulty renaming the file extension and unzipping the files, you can also download .zip files of each issue from this Megaupload folder or this Mediafire folder.

OK! But How Can I Support It?
I’m afraid this section is largely biased towards North America, but if any of y’all out elsewhere in the world have suggestions for other countries, please let me know! I’d definitely like to add them in to this post!
Anyway, here’s what you can do if you’re here in North America:
If you have access to Cartoon Network, new episodes air Fridays at 6:30PM EST! Cartoon Network also regularly airs reruns, so if you miss an episode on Friday or if you just want to give them another viewer, you can usually find it on the schedule. Young Justice is also available to purchase on an episode by episode basis, or via a season pass, on both iTunes and Amazon. You can also purchase Young Justice: Season One Volume 1 (DVD), which collects the first four episodes. It’s currently $10 on Amazon, which is about what it costs to download those episodes in standard def on iTunes, so! Young Justice: Season One Volume 2 is slated to release at the end of October; it collects the next four episodes and is available to preorder at $11 on Amazon.
The comic is published monthly, and it hits stands towards the end of the month. Some bookstores and many comic book shops carry it, but you can also subscribe to it via DC Comics’ website, order it directly via select retailers, or you can purchase digital copies straight from DC. DC collects some kids’ titles into trade paperback or pocket-sized formats; they may do so for Young Justice, too, though for now it’s the individual issues or nothing at all.
DC is also offering a broadening range of merchandise, from t-shirts to toys to the usual assortment of kid’s stuff (lunchboxes, backpacks, binders, etc), so if you’re interested in any of that, it’s out there!
But really, one of the best ways you can support the show is just to watch it. If you can catch it on TV, that’s awesome! If you have a friend you think would enjoy it, share it with them! If you like the show, let people know about it, so they can check it out, too.
